Redirect chains

A redirect is not automatically a defect. The useful diagnosis explains how many hops occurred, where the redirecting reference was embedded, and whether one normalization rule created many occurrences.

What this finding means

A redirect chain occurs when a requested URL reaches its final destination through more than one redirect response. Chains add failure points and make stale references harder to maintain.

02

Evidence to preserve

  • Initial URL and every redirect hop
  • Final URL and final response status
  • Source page, HTML or schema context, and matched literal
  • Root-cause classification such as host, protocol, slash, query, or content redirect
03

How to repair the cause

  • Update internal references to the final intended URL
  • Fix shared navigation, schema, or template sources before individual pages
  • Collapse infrastructure normalization to one hop where practical
  • Retain redirects that serve a real migration purpose
04

How to verify the fix

Re-parse each source and confirm that its delivered literal now points directly to the intended final URL.

Amplitera exposes the path and context. It does not assume that two redirected pages have equivalent editorial meaning.
